Viewing Herbert F. Schoening (1892-1938).Herbert F. Schoening (1892-1938).After graduating the University of Chicago Law School in 1916, Herbert F. Schoening was admitted to the bars of Minnesota and North Dakota. He then served in the U. S. Army during the World War. After discharge, he practiced in Minneapolis, specialized in commercial law and "built up an enviable reputation in the field." He was very active in the Commercial Law League of America. He also found time to work on community and charitable projects of the Elks, the Masons and the American Legion. He died on December 5, 1938, at age forty-six. At a memorial service in Hennepin County District Court in February 1939, Alf A. Sundeen, a colleague, stated, "He was a firm believer in the value of organized effort in behalf of the [legal] profession. He knew that whatever improvement was accomplished, whatever progress was made, would come only through organization." |
