Alfred A. Stoll, a graduate of Harvard law School, practiced law in Minneapolis from 1933 to his death on March 29, 1958, at age forty-seven. At memorial proceedings in Hennepin County District Court a few weeks later, Robert F. Hanson, a member of Stoll's firm, recalled his mastery of the field of estate planning:
"Alfred devoted much of his professional career to the estate planning and probate fields. His extensive knowledge of the law, his incisive mind, and his unusual gift for clear expression uniquely fitted him for this work. He rapidly acquired a widespread reputation with clients and trust officers alike, not only for his understanding of the multitude of tax and other problems inherent in estate planning, but also for his ability to create readable instruments in a field plagued by the traditionally stilted legal instruments of the past."
