Viewing Debates and Proceedings of the Republican Wing of the Minnesota Constitutional Convention (1857).

Debates and Proceedings of the Republican Wing of the Minnesota Constitutional Convention (1857).

A constitutional convention to adopt a constitution for the new state of Minnesota was held in St. Paul from July 13 to August 29, 1857. It immediately divided into separate Democratic and Republican wings, which held and recorded their own debates. They finally authorized a conference committee of members of both wings to draft a constitution. It was adopted by each wing on August 28, 1857, and ratified by voters on October 13, 1857.

The debates and proceedings of the Republican wing were transcribed by T. F. Andrews, its official reporter, and published in a 624 page book in 1858. It is posted here.
