Viewing John J. Trippe (1868-1906).John J. Trippe (1868-1906).John Trippe was born, raised, educated, worked and died in Winona. After graduating from the local high school, he worked briefly for former Chief Justice and Congressman Thomas Wilson, then attended business school in Milwaukee, where he learned stenography. He returned to work for several law firms and acquired the reputation for being "the fastest typist and one of the most reliable in the city." In 1898, he ran for clerk of the district court and won handily. He was re-elected in 1902. Midway through his second term, he developed diabetes. He died on February 28, 1906, at age thirty-seven. On February 1, 1907, the Winona County Bar Association presented a memorial to him in district court. |
