William Groth (1892-1947).William Groth's education at the Northwestern University Law School was interrupted by two years of service in the United States Army during World War One. After his discharge he returned to Northwestern, became a member of the Order of Coif, graduated in 1919, was admitted to the Illinois bar and joined a Chicago law firm, which was counsel to Northern States Power Company in Minneapolis. When NSP formed an in-house legal department, it turned to "Bill" Groth. He served as house counsel for the company from 1936 to 1947. He quickly took advantage of the opportunities for hunting and fishing available in northern Minnesota. After his death on October 9, 1947, a colleague recalled him at memorial services of the Hennepin County Bar Association.
