Appointed in 1898 by Judge William Lochren, he served to his death on August 6, 1938. It was a part-time position, and during these decades he maintained a private practice with William P. Murphy in Crookston.

Spencer, Judge Page Morris appointed Dickey Clerk of Court, a position he held until his death on August 10, 1933.
