"Breck" Overstreet graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in June 1940 and immediately joined the Marine Corps. He was 24 years old.
In August 1944, he was assigned administrative responsibilities for the invasion of Guam. For this he was awarded the Bronze Silver Star.
The next year he was assigned administrative responsibilities for the invasion of Okinawa. For this he was awarded the Legion of Merit and a Gold Star.
He was discharged on October 16, 1945, and joined a Minneapolis law firm. Married the next year, he and his wife had three daughters.
He was recalled to active duty by the Marine Corps in August 1950, at the outset of the Korean War.
He was discharged on February 8, 1952, and rejoined his firm
He died on September 13, 1952, after a brief illness.
He was 36 years old.
